Soniya K. Brar holds a Master's of Music in Ethnomusicology from the University of Texas at Austin. She sings jazz and has studied North Indian classical music, specifically voice and sitar, during her graduate studies under Anita and Stephen Slawek, respectively. Past projects include the radio piece "Unfettered Voices: A Tribute to Women's Movements in India," with the Austin-based collective Sangati, and appearances on Karmacy's album "The Movement," Shaheen Sheik's "Rock Candy," and Foologic Control's "Om." She finished an EP of original songs in 2006. She has taught music fundamentals and jazz history and currently works for the San Francisco Girls Chorus. www.sfgirlschorus.org
